Diljit Dosanjh Dedicates Indore Concert to Rahat Indori Amid Protests

Amid opposition from the Bajrang Dal calling for his Indore concert to be canceled, Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh dedicated the event to the late Urdu poet Rahat Indori, a beloved icon of the city. During his performance on Sunday as part of the Dil-Luminati tour, Dosanjh quoted Indori’s renowned couplet:

“Kisi ke baap ka Hindustan thodi hai”
(Hindustan doesn’t belong to anyone’s father).

The full ghazal emphasizes unity and sacrifice, highlighting that India is a land shaped by the contributions of all its people. Diljit’s invocation of these lines resonated with the audience, drawing cheers and applause.

Background of the Protest

The Bajrang Dal had approached local authorities to stop the concert, accusing Diljit of alleged “anti-national remarks” and supposed ties to Khalistan. The group’s leader, Avinash Kaushal, declared, “We will not allow such a person to perform in Maa Ahilya’s city,” threatening protests if the event proceeded.

Diljit’s Response

While Dosanjh avoided directly addressing the Bajrang Dal, he subtly countered the controversies surrounding him. He humorously tackled allegations of ticket scalping at his concerts, saying, “How is it the artist’s fault if a Rs 10 ticket is sold for Rs 100?”

He further celebrated Rahat Indori’s legacy by reciting another of the poet’s verses, underscoring his resilience in the face of criticism and misrepresentation. Through his performance, Dosanjh paid tribute to cultural icons and unity, blending art with a subtle yet firm stand against divisive rhetoric.
