Akshay Kumar reveals he was ‘removed’ from ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ franchise

During a recent fan interaction with an Indian media outlet, Akshay Kumar, who starred in the original blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa, addressed his absence from the sequel and upcoming third installment of the franchise.

When a fan asked why he didn’t return for the follow-ups, Kumar candidly replied, “Beta, mujhe nikaal diya tha (Son, I was removed). That’s it.” He added that he hadn’t watched Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 or 3 for the same reason.

When questioned about his shift away from comedy films over the past decade, the Housefull actor acknowledged, “That’s true. I’ve done fewer comedies. I focused on social films like Airlift, Rustom, Padman, and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha because that’s what I wanted to do at the time. Every person has a phase where their mindset shifts to something they feel passionate about.”

However, Kumar assured fans that he’s returning to comedy. “I’ve signed two to three comedy films, including Bhooth Bangla, Welcome to the Jungle, and Housefull 5,” he revealed.

Akshay Kumar headlined the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa film, a remake of the iconic Malayalam psychological horror Manichitrathazhu, directed by veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan. The 2007 hit also featured Vidya Balan, Shiney Ahuja, and Ameesha Patel in key roles.

In 2022, the Bhool Bhulaiyaa series took a fresh turn, evolving into a horror-comedy franchise. Filmmaker Anees Bazmee helmed the sequel, with Kartik Aaryan stepping into the lead role for both the second and third installments.
