Jan 7, 2025

Hollywood icon Demi Moore has reached a career milestone, winning her first acting award at the 2025 Golden Globes for her performance in Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance. The 62-year-old actress earned the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Film title for her role as Elisabeth Sparkle in the body-horror movie, marking a significant moment in her five-decade career.

At the 82nd Golden Globes, Moore triumphed over a formidable group of nominees, including Amy Adams (Nightbitch), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Mikey Madison (Anora), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez), and Zendaya (Challengers). Her emotional acceptance speech captured the depth of her journey.

“I’m just in shock right now,” Moore began. “I’ve been doing this a long time—over 45 years. This is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor, and I’m just so humbled and so grateful.”

Reflecting on her career struggles, Moore recalled a producer once dismissing her as a “popcorn actress,” implying she could star in box-office hits but wasn’t worthy of critical acclaim. “I believed that narrative,” she admitted. “It corroded me over time to the point where I thought, maybe this was it, maybe I’d done all I was meant to do.”

However, Moore shared that this recognition came at a crucial moment when she needed it most. “The universe told me I wasn’t done,” she added, expressing gratitude for the unexpected turn in her career.

In The Substance, Moore portrays an ageing TV fitness instructor who undergoes a mysterious medical program to create the perfect version of herself. The role has earned widespread praise, further solidifying her legacy in Hollywood.

Fans and peers alike celebrated her well-deserved win, marking a new chapter for the veteran star.
