‘Harry Potter’ Actor Ralph Fiennes Endorses Cillian Murphy as Voldemort in Franchise Reboot

Dec 6, 2024

In a recent interview, Ralph Fiennes, who famously played Voldemort in the Harry Potter film series, shared his thoughts on the possibility of Cillian Murphy taking over the role in HBO’s upcoming series adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books.

Fiennes expressed enthusiastic support for Murphy, calling him a “fantastic actor” and endorsing the idea wholeheartedly. “That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favour of Cillian. Yeah,” he said, signaling approval for the casting choice.

Fiennes first portrayed the Dark Lord in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and continued to bring the character to life in subsequent films. While he had previously shown interest in reprising the role for the HBO reboot, his comments suggest he is open to passing the torch to Murphy.

The untitled HBO series is described as “a faithful adaptation” of Rowling’s original book series, with the author also serving as an executive producer. Meanwhile, Murphy, celebrated for his role as Thomas Shelby in Netflix’s Peaky Blinders, is currently working on the franchise’s much-anticipated movie. Netflix recently shared a first-look image of Murphy as Tommy Shelby, confirming that production is underway.

Fans eagerly await further details about the Harry Potter reboot, including official casting announcements.
